Ahlem Sunglasses: Our Favourites

As a new feature to our journal, we will be featuring the top four or five core optical frames or sunglasses from each independent eyewear designer that we stock at our Wimbledon store. These are frames that we absolutely love and think you will too. So without further ado let’s get started with French eyewear designer Ahlem Manai-Platt and her Ahlem sunglasses collection.

AHLEM is going from strength to strength with their own stores in Los Angeles, New York and most recently Paris. Alongside a growing number of celebrity wearers from LeBron James, Seth Rogan, Emma Roberts and Emily Ratajkowski to name just a few. Ahlem sunglasses allude a modern yet vintage feel and her frames are manufactured by carefully selected artisans in Oyanaxx, France.

AHLEM Sunglasses – Grenelle

I know we shouldn’t have favourites but at the moment the Grenelle is mine. Described by AHLEM as their blackout sunglass. Our favourite colours are the classic Dark Turtle, Peach with a striking green lens and Indigiolight.

AHLEM Sunglasses – Champ De Mars

Produced from 7mm thick Italian Mazzucchelli acetate the Champ de Mars is engaging and definitively chic for a classic shape. Thanks to its perfect balance between round and square this frame is suitable for nearly all face shapes, gents and ladies. Our favourite colours are Green, Dark Turtle and Burgundy.

AHLEM – Abbesses

If you’re looking for chunky sunglasses but always find them too big or overpowering this is the one for you (along with Pont Des Arts which we haven’t featured). A timelessly cool shape that can be worn all year round. Our favourite colours are Dry Pampas and Indigolight. Read our blog on glasses for small faces.

AHLEM – Vivienne

The Vivienne is an oversized square sunglass made up of a polished top half of the frame and a lovely sharp raw untouched finish at the bottom. This creates fantastic sharp contrast from top to bottom. Our favourite colours are Light Turtle and Yellow Turtle with green glitter lenses for that extra bit of sparkle in the sunlight.

AHLEM Sunglasses – Place de la Madeleine

A very sophisticated round eye with 22k gold plating and a beautiful acetate Windsor rim. As worn by American rapper Future in the May edition of GQ.

AHLEM Bellechase

Our final Ahlem sunglasses frame is the Bellechase. A brand new frame to the collection launched in Autumn 2023. This frame is a large rectangular frame designed for gents but also works wonderfully as an oversized chic ladies’ sunglass.
