Introducing Thierry Lasry
As one of our favourite and most popular eyewear designers we carry at our Wimbledon village boutique we thought it about time we gave them a proper introduction.
Who is Thierry Lasry?
Thierry who is the son of an optician (father) and a designer (mother) founded his namesake brand Thierry Lasry in 2006. Since the brand’s inception, it has helped raise the sunglass from a nice extra accessory to one thought of in the same bracket as a beautiful clutch or earrings and key to any great summer or winter outfit.
As a child, he used to love to play with Lego and that has been inspired one of the signature aspects of his frames: The futuristic flat front featured on all of his frames. He designs with his ideal client in mind a person who is confident with a unique individual style and who appreciates a shade of elegance and hidden branding.
Thierry Lasry’s popularity has been growing year on year, opening his first store in the trendy St Germain region of Paris in 2017 and more recently in 2020 on Lafayette St in his adopted home of New York. His frames can be found adorning the faces of celebrities, artists and athletes around the world including Priyanka Chopra who wears Acidity, Justin Bieber (Rhude – Rhodeo collaboration), Kate Moss and Nicole Kidman who wears the now sold-out Bunny, to name just a few.
All of his eyewear and sunglasses are handmade in either Italy or France using acetate from the world renowned Italian acetate producer Mazzucchelli who has been family owned since their inception in 1849 when they manufactured buttons and comb’s from animal horn, bone and tortoiseshell.
Here are a couple of our favourite frames.
Murdery – A lovely soft feminine cat-eye with striking white acetate and a yellow turtle mottle.
Unicorny – A great shape for the slightly larger head with striking leopard print mottled acetate.
Gambly – One of our real favourites, cuts in nicely with the wearer’s jawline to give that chunky but proportioned look.
Lonely – Beautifully made frame which comprises two different acetate colours in the front rim of the frame.
Sketchy – Offers the iconic Thierry Lasry style without the weight thanks to its light titanium sides.
If you haven’t noticed the pattern Thierry loves to play with “Y”s at the end of all of his model names.
If you would like to view the Thierry Lasry collection please head down to our boutique here in Wimbledon where we also offer styling consultations, eye tests and contact lens fittings.
We hope to see you all soon,
